Doubs (English spelling)

Japanese: ドゥー[川]（英語表記）Le Doubs

A tributary of the Saône in eastern France. It is about 430 km long. It originates in the central Jura Mountains and flows northeastward, alternating between long valleys (vals) that run parallel to the folded mountain range and short valleys (cluses) that cross the mountain range. It forms the border between France and Switzerland in part, and flows through Switzerland in part. After leaving the Jura Mountains, it turns southwest, meanders through Besançon, and joins the Saône southeast of Beaune. The southwest-flowing part is navigable, and is connected to the Rhône-Rhine Canal.

フランス東部，ソーヌ川の支流。全長約430km。ジュラ山脈中部に源を発し，褶曲した山列に平行する長い縦谷(バル)と，山列を横断する短い横谷(クリューズ)を交互させながら北東に向かう。一部でフランス，スイス国境をなし，一部ではスイス領内を流れる。ジュラ山脈を離れると南西に反転，曲流しながらブザンソンを通り，ボーヌ南東でソーヌ川に合流する。南西流する部分では航行可能で，ローヌ･ライン運河と結ばれている。
