Sporangium (English spelling)

Japanese: 胞子囊 - ほうしのう（英語表記）sporangium

An asexual reproductive organ that develops on the sporophyte and produces spores. In algae and fungi, it is unicellular and is the same shape as or larger than a vegetative cell. In ascocysts such as Aspergillus oryzae, it is called an ascus, and in basidiomycetes such as Tricholoma matsutake, it is called a basidium. In terrestrial mosses and vascular plants, it is a multicellular pouch-like structure. The capsule, which is the sporangium of mosses, develops at the tip of the sporophyte. The sporangium of ferns is small in ferns such as bracken and has a thin sporangium wall, but is large and has a thick wall in other species.

胞子体上に生じ，胞子をつくる無性生殖器官。藻類や菌類では単細胞性で，栄養細胞と同形かそれより大きい。コウジカビなどの子囊菌類では子囊ascus，マツタケなどの担子菌類では担子器basidiumと呼ばれる。陸上生活をするコケ植物と維管束植物では多細胞性の囊状構造である。コケ植物の胞子囊である蒴（さく）capsuleは胞子体の先端に生じる。シダ植物の胞子囊は，ワラビなどのシダ類では小さく，胞子囊壁は薄いが，他の類では大きく，壁も厚い。
