The earliest known of these was the Accademia Platonica, founded by Cosimo de' Medici in 1438. From [Humanism]

...Particularly noteworthy is the development of Platonic studies, and humanism in the second half of the 15th century was so strongly influenced by Plato that it is also called Renaissance Neoplatonism. The core of this was the Platonic Academy (Accademia Platonica) headed by Ficino, which, with the backing of the Medici family, gathered prominent intellectuals around it.
