Heat flow meter

Japanese: 熱流計 - ねつりゅうけい（英語表記）heat flow meter

A device that measures heat flow is called a heat flow meter or heat flow meter. Heat flow or heat flow rate is the amount of heat dissipated per unit area and per unit time from a solid surface such as a pipe or furnace wall, and is an important value for understanding heat retention effects. In general, a thin plate measuring element with a known thickness and thermal conductivity (or the ratio of thermal conductivity to thickness) is placed on the solid surface, and the temperature difference between both sides is measured using an appropriate method. The plate placed on the solid surface is usually called a Schmidt belt, and the temperature difference is detected by several dozen thermocouples connected in series.

熱流を測定する装置を熱流計または熱流量計という。熱流あるいは熱流量とは，配管や炉壁のような固体表面から，単位面積，単位時間に放散する熱量のことで，保温効果を知るうえでたいせつな値である。一般に厚さおよび熱伝導率(あるいは熱伝導率と厚さの比)が知られている薄板の測定素子を固体表面に当てて，その両面の温度差を適当な方法で測定して求める。固体表面に当てる板は通常シュミットベルトSchmidt beltと呼ばれるもので，温度差の検出は数十本直列につながれた熱電対によって行われる。
