Ota

Japanese: 太田 - おおた

This is the former town area in the eastern part of Daisen City, in the central-southern part of Akita Prefecture. It is located in the northeastern part of the Yokote Basin. It borders Iwate Prefecture to the east. In 1956, Yokozawa Village and Naganoda Village merged to form Ota Village, which was incorporated as a town in 1969. In 2005, it merged with Omagari City, Kamioka Town, Nishisenboku Town, Nakasen Town, Kyowa Town, Minamisoto Village, and Senboku Town to form Daisen City. Water is diverted from the Tazawa Canal on the alluvial fan on the western slope of the Mahiru Mountains, and rice fields are widespread, but they are used as rice paddy and dairy farming land through rice-field rotation. The Mahiru Mountains in the east, along with the rich nature of the Maki Valley upstream of the Sainai River, have been designated as Maki Mahiru Prefectural Natural Park.

秋田県中南部，大仙市東部の旧町域。横手盆地の北東部にある。東は岩手県に接する。1956年横沢村と長信田村が合体して太田村となり，1969年町制。2005年大曲市，神岡町，西仙北町，中仙町，協和町，南外村，仙北町と合体して大仙市となった。真昼山地西斜面の扇状地では田沢疏水が引かれ水田が広がるが，田畑輪換により水田酪農地として利用される。東部の真昼山地は，斉内川上流の真木渓谷の豊かな自然とともに真木真昼県立自然公園に指定されている。
