1901‐74 Italian film director. After World War II, he became the greatest director of "Neorealism" alongside Roberto Rossellini with his two films "Shoeshine" (1947) and "Bicycle Thieves" (1948). All of his representative works, from "The Children Are Watching" (1942) to "The Miracle of Milan" (1950), "Umberto D" (1952), "Terminal Station" (1953), and "Two Women" (1960), were made in collaboration with screenwriter Cesare Sabatini, and Sabatini's "Neorealism of the Everyday" can be considered to have been formed through his collaboration with De Sica.
