...This culture was established as a type from layers I to V after the Iraqi Directorate of Antiquities excavated what was believed to be the oldest Mesopotamian agricultural village in 1943 and 1944 under the guidance of Lloyd S. Lloyd and Safar F. at the Hassuna site in northern Iraq. Stone axes with sharpened blades, stone hoes, stone blade sickles, stone plates, grains, and bones of cattle, sheep, and goats were excavated from the village site, which consisted of remains of pizeh-made houses, grain storage facilities, and bread ovens, along with clay figurines, crude pottery, and painted and engraved pottery.
