Halemaumau

...It is composed of lava flows of tholeiitic olivine basalt, mainly less than a few meters thick. At the summit is a Kilauea-type caldera measuring about 2 km x 3 km, with the active crater Halemaumau in the southwest. Eruptions occur not only at the summit, but also in the rift zones that extend from the summit to the southwest and east and reach the seafloor.
