… [Tanaka Awa]
[Islam]
In the Islamic world, the term bustan (meaning "fragrant place"), derived from the Persian language, has been widely used to refer to gardens, but this word can also refer to vegetable gardens or orchards. There are many words that refer to gardens, such as janna, firdaus, rauḍa, bāgh, and ḥadīqa, which also mean paradise. Most of the countries in Western Asia and North Africa, which are the centers of the Islamic world, are located in arid regions, and settlements are surrounded by barren desert or wilderness.
