He gained fame as a skilled poet with his epic poem Kiratārjunīya. This poem, consisting of 18 chapters, is based on the great epic Mahabharata and tells the story of the brave prince Arjuna's battle with the god Shiva, who is disguised as a Kiratha, a ferocious mountain tribe, and his bravery is recognized and he receives a divinely bestowed weapon.
