This is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Beijing, the capital of China. It is the best-preserved temple of the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, covering an area of approximately 66,400 m2 . Built in 1694 by the second Qing emperor, Kangxi, for his son, Emperor Yongzheng, Beile Palace was converted into a Tibetan Buddhist temple by Emperor Qianlong in 1744.
