1823‐52 German mathematician. Born into a Jewish family in Berlin. His father repeatedly failed in business, and he grew up in an unhappy family environment. However, he was interested in mathematical thinking from an early age, and showed outstanding talent in mathematics in middle and high school, and attended specialized lectures at university. At the age of 21, he published many papers in a famous mathematics journal edited by AL Crelle. However, he was financially unstable and suffered from depression, and he barely managed to survive with the support of the Berlin royal family, thanks to the kindness of Alexander Humboldt, who loved his talent and personality.
