…After the fall of the Tang Dynasty, ci became popular in the courts of Shu and Southern Tang, among the many local governments of the Five Dynasties. Excellent ci were written by Wei Zhuang, the prime minister of Shu, and by the father and son dukes Li Jing and Li Yu (the Two Main Ci of Southern Tang) and prime minister Feng Yanshi in Southern Tang. The first collection of ci, the Huajianshu, was compiled in Shu (940). Ci made a great leap forward during the reign of Emperor Renzong (1022-62) in the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty. …
