(Richard)[I] (I) King of England from the House of Plantagenet (reigned 1189-99 ). Lionheart. He fought in the Third Crusade. After returning home, he was killed in battle against Philip II's army in France. He was brave, generous, and considered a typical medieval knight. ( 1157-99 )[II] (II) King of England from the House of Plantagenet (reigned 1377-99 ). Son of Edward the Black Prince. He strengthened Parliament and suppressed the power of the nobles, but later became despotic, and was captured by Henry of the House of Lancaster who had united the dissidents, and Parliament also decided to abolish the throne. Henry IV took the throne in his place and founded the House of Lancaster. It is said that Richard was assassinated. ( 1367-1400 )[III] (III) The last King of England from the House of York (reigned 1483-85 ). Youngest brother of Edward IV. After the death of his elder brother, he imprisoned his son, Edward V, and his brother in the Tower of London before ascending to the throne, which led to him losing the support of the people, and in 1485 he was defeated by the attack of the future King Henry VII. (Richard)[一] (一世) プランタジネット朝のイギリス王(在位一一八九‐九九)。獅子心王。第三回十字軍に出征。帰国後、フランスでフィリップ二世の軍と交戦して戦死。勇敢、寛大で中世騎士の典型とされた。(一一五七‐九九)[二] (二世) プランタジネット朝のイギリス王(在位一三七七‐九九)。エドワード黒太子の子。議会を強化して貴族勢力を抑えたが、のちに専制化したため、不平分子を糾合したランカスター家のヘンリーに捕えられ、議会も廃位を決定。かわりにヘンリー四世が即位してランカスター朝を創立。リチャードは暗殺されたといわれる。(一三六七‐一四〇〇)[三] (三世) ヨーク朝最後のイギリス王(在位一四八三‐八五)。エドワード四世の末弟。兄王の死後、その子エドワード五世およびその弟をロンドン塔に幽閉して王位についたために国民の支持を失い、八五年、後のヘンリー七世の来攻にあって敗北。(一四五二‐八五)
