…In 199 (Jian'an 4), Yuan Shao defeated Gongsun Zan and unified the Hebei and Shanxi regions. Cao Cao, who supported Emperor Xian and had his base in the Shandong and Henan regions, also expanded his power after Yuan Shu's death from illness, and the two divided North China in two across the Yellow River. In 200, Yuan Shao led a large army across the river, and after fighting many battles with Cao Cao, they faced each other at Guandu (Zhongmu County, Henan Province) for several months, and Cao Cao, who was at a disadvantage, won. This decisive battle sealed Cao Cao's conquest of North China, and Yuan Shao died in anger. …
