Tenma

Japanese: 天満 - てんま
Tenma

A commercial and industrial district in the southeastern part of Kita-ku, Osaka City, surrounded by the Yodo River and the Tenma Hori River (reclaimed land). This was the land of Tenma-gumi, one of the three Osaka towns during the Edo period. Tenmangu Shrine is located in Tenjinmori, slightly west of the center, and nearby there is a monument to the former Tenma-gumi general meeting hall. To the south of that stands a monument to the Tenma vegetable market, once one of Osaka's three major markets. Along the Yodo River in the east are the Mint Bureau, Senpukan (a national important cultural property), and Youth Art Gallery (formerly Sakuranomiya Public Hall, the main entrance of which is a national important cultural property).
