A Zen monk from the Tang Dynasty in China. The founder of the Soto sect. He spread Buddhism in Tozan, Jiangxi Province, and was called Tozan Liangkei, with the posthumous title Gohon Daishi. His disciple Sozan Honjaku perfected the teachings, and the Soto sect was named after them. His works include "Hokyo Samadhika" (The Song of the Mirror of Mercy).
