…In the late 11th or early 12th century, the Corpus Juris Romanus was rediscovered in Bologna, northern Italy, in its entirety, especially its most extensive and important part, the Corpus Juris, (the so-called “Resurrection of Roman Law”). The Commentarial School (also called the Bologna School) was established as a school of Roman law research and teaching. For them, the Corpus Juris Romanus was an authoritative text, as it represented legal truth itself, an expression of divine will (written reason), and their main task was to provide analytical commentaries (commentaries glossae) on the legal texts in their order.
