Glass fiber reinforced plastics

Japanese: glass fiber reinforced plastics(英語表記)glassfiberreinforcedplastics
Glass fiber reinforced plastics

…Composite materials in which the continuous phase is plastic or plastic-like. Representative examples are fiber reinforced plastics (abbreviated as FRP), which are made by solidifying long glass fibers, woven fabrics, and short glass fibers with thermosetting resins such as unsaturated polyester resins and epoxy resins, and carbon fiber reinforced thermosetting plastics (abbreviated as GFRP), which similarly use carbon fibers. Both have high specific elastic modulus (elastic modulus/density) and specific strength (strength/density), and are becoming widely used in aerospace materials and sports goods that require light weight, high strength, and high rigidity. On the other hand, when the matrix resin is a thermoplastic resin such as polypropylene, it is mainly injection molded using short glass fibers or carbon fibers, and this is called fiber reinforced thermoplastics (abbreviated as FRTP), which is mainly used as a metal replacement in machine parts, etc. …
