Japan Creative Print Association

Japan Creative Print Association
An art group founded in 1918 by Yamamoto Tei, Oda Kazuma, Tobari Kogan, Terasaki Takeo, and others. Traditionally, the production of ukiyo-e was usually divided among painters, carvers, and printers, and even in the Meiji era, Kobayashi Kiyochika, Hashiguchi Goyo, and others followed this method, but from the end of the Meiji era, so-called creative prints were produced, in which one artist carried out all the processes. In particular, the magazine "Hosun," launched in 1907 by Ishii Hakutei, Morita Tsunetomo, and Yamamoto Tei, greatly promoted the trend toward creative print production. The Japan Creative Print Association held its first exhibition the year after its founding, and eight exhibitions were held by 1928, and in 1931 it was merged with the Western Style Print Association to become the Japan Print Association.
