Born on October 17, 1858. Became a reporter for the Jiji Shimpo newspaper founded by Fukuzawa Yukichi, and later served as its editor-in-chief. He also served as a council member at his alma mater, Keio University, and from 1923 he devoted himself to editing Fukuzawa Yukichi's writings. He passed away on July 25, 1943, at the age of 85.
