Jihei Ohguchiya - Oguchiya Jihei
Years of birth: unknown Years of birth and death: unknown A billbroker in Asakusa Kuramae in the mid-Edo period. He was said to be the representative of the 18 great Edo merchants during the Meiwa and An'ei eras (1764-1781). He later took the name Kyou and later Kyoo. Oguchiya Jihei was the hereditary family name and name that had continued since the establishment of the stock association in 1724 (Kyoho 9), and Kyou is thought to have been the second or third generation, but it is unknown. He was close to Ichikawa Danjūrō II, and imitated the manners of kabuki actors under the name Ima Sukeroku, and also assisted them as a patron. In his daily life, he was known for settling disputes in the town with violent behavior reminiscent of the rough acts of kabuki actors, and for spending large sums of money to settle them. In 1753 (Hōreki 3), he handed over his haiku name to Iseya Soshiro Zenshi, a disciple of Odō, and took on the name Kyoo himself. In 1767 (Meiwa 4), he retired from billbroking, and his subsequent career is unknown. He is a representative figure of Edo townspeople culture during the time of Tanuma Okitsugu.
