Ottoman politician. Born in the village of Sokolović in the Bosnian countryside under the control of the empire, he was introduced to the royal court by Deusirme as a boy. He gained the trust of Suleiman the Magnificent, and after serving as Chief of the Guard and Admiral of the Navy, he was appointed Grand Vizier (Sadrazam) in 1564. He served in this position for the next 13 years, working to reform the national government, including reforming the military, and in 1571 conquered Cyprus. In the same year, the Ottoman Empire was defeated in the Battle of Lepanto, but he succeeded in restoring naval power and working to maintain the prosperity of the empire, but he was assassinated by a political enemy in 1579.

オスマン帝国の政治家。帝国支配下のボスニア地方の片田舎ソコロビッチ村に生まれ，少年の頃デウシルメによって宮廷に入る。スレイマン1世の信任を得，門衛長官，海軍提督などをへて，1564年に大宰相(サドラザム)に任ぜられた。以後13年間この職にあって，軍隊の改革など国政刷新につとめ，1571年にキプロス島征服。同年オスマン帝国は，レパントの海戦に敗れたが，海軍力の回復に成功するなど，帝国の繁栄維持に努力したが，79年，政敵により暗殺された。
