An old town in Hata District facing Tosa Bay in the southwest of Kochi Prefecture. There is flat coastal land and the main settlement, Irino, has developed. People engage in coastal fishing, flower and vegetable cultivation. The Tosa Kuroshio Railway runs through the town. There is a sandy beach and Irino Matsubara (a scenic spot). In March 2006, it merged with Saga Town in Hata District to become Kuroshio Town in Hata District. Area: 112.52 km2 . Population: 10,299 (2003). 高知県南西部,土佐湾に面する幡多(はた)郡の旧町。沿岸に平地があり主集落入野が発達。沿岸漁業,花卉(かき)・野菜栽培を営む。土佐くろしお鉄道が通じる。砂浜が続き入野松原(名勝)がある。2006年3月,幡多郡佐賀町と合併し町制,幡多郡黒潮町となる。112.52km2。1万299人(2003)。
