Oita Plain - Oita Heiya

Japanese: 大分平野 - おおいたへいや

The area is an alluvial plain on the south coast of Beppu Bay in the lower reaches of the Oita River and the Oono River in central Oita Prefecture. The bay coast is made up of alluvial plains such as deltas and reclaimed land, while the southern part is covered with diluvial plateaus and dissected hills of the Neogene period. The alluvial plains are used for rice paddies, while the plateaus and hills are used for farmland. Most of the area belongs to Oita City, with the city center in the west, the former castle town and port town of Tsurusaki in the center, and the former market town of Sakanoichi in the east. After World War II, a steel and petrochemical complex was built on the reclaimed land on the coast between the Oono River and the Oita River, and the plateau has been converted into residential land, with many housing complexes being developed.

大分県中部，大分川，大野川の下流域で別府湾南岸の沖積平野。湾岸は三角州などの沖積平野および埋立地からなり，南部には洪積台地や開析された新第三紀の丘陵地が広がる。沖積平野は水田，台地や丘陵地は畑地に利用されている。大部分が大分市に属し，西部に大分市の中心市街地，中部に旧城下町で港町の鶴崎，東部に旧市場町の坂ノ市がある。第2次世界大戦後，大野川と大分川との間の臨海埋立地には鉄鋼・石油化学コンビナートが建設され，台地には住宅用地化が進み，多くの住宅団地が開発されている。
