Oita River - Ooita

A river that flows through central Oita Prefecture. It originates on the southwest foot of Mt. Yufudake, collects water from the Yufuin Basin, flows east along the southern foot of Mt. Amagoi and Mt. Jogadake, and joins the Asono River, Obasama River, and Seri River in the middle reaches, and the Yufu River in the lower reaches to form the western half of the Oita Plain, before emptying into Beppu Bay. It is a first-class river. It is 55 km long and has a drainage area of ​​650 square km. Its irrigation area is 9,249 hectares. There are 11 small power plants, including the Serigawa Dam, which was completed in 1956. In recent years, its value as a water supply for Oita City and Beppu City has also increased. The JR Kyudai Main Line and National Route 210 run along the river.

大分県中部を流れる川。由布岳(ゆふだけ)南西麓(ろく)に源を発し、由布院(ゆふいん)盆地の水を集め、雨乞岳(あまごいだけ)、城ヶ岳(じょうがだけ)南麓を東流、中流で阿蘇野(あその)川、小挾間(おばさま)川、芹(せり)川、下流で由布川などをあわせ大分平野西半部を形成し、別府湾に注ぐ。一級河川。延長55キロメートル、流域面積650平方キロメートル。灌漑(かんがい)面積9249ヘクタール。1956年(昭和31)完成の芹川ダムをはじめ、11か所に小発電所がある。近年、大分市、別府市の上水道用水としての価値も増大してきた。川に沿ってJR久大(きゅうだい)本線と国道210号が走る。
