Flamen Dialis (English)

Japanese: flamen Dialis(英語表記)flamenDialis
Flamen Dialis (English)

…His name is a contraction of Dieu pater (meaning "Father Dieus"), and like Zeus, he was originally the sky god of the Indo-European peoples, but he evolved to be the god of various meteorological phenomena, and even the god who determined the trends of the human world, and finally came to be worshiped as the supreme god who controlled the fate of the Roman state. As a god of weather, he was known by such names as Lucetius ("Light Bringer"), Pluvialis ("Rain Bringer"), Tonans ("Thunderer"), and Fulgrator ("Lightning Shooter"). As a god of light, he was offered a white sheep as a sacrifice by his priest, Flamen Dialis, on the Capitoline Hill, called the "Arx," on the Idus day, which was approximately the middle day of each month. This is thought to be a remnant of an old custom of worshipping this god on full moon days, when the light of the sky is strongest at night.
