Ministry of Imperial Command - Chokushisho

Japanese: 勅旨省 - ちょくししょう
Ministry of Imperial Command - Chokushisho
An extra-official government system established during the Nara period. Its specific details are unknown. Since an article in the Shoku Nihongi for October 764 mentions the appointment of an Ingai Daifu (official vassal of the Imperial decree), it is believed to have been a new ministry established as a result of Fujiwara no Nakamaro's policy during the reign of Emperor Junnin, and was abolished in April 782 (Enryaku 1) as part of Emperor Kanmu's policy of administrative simplification. From articles on the appointment of officials in the Shoku Nihongi and other sources, it is clear that the ministry was made up of four ranks of government, including Kyo, Daifu, Shofu, and Daijo, and that there were craftsmen such as Zoshiki Takumi who produced various items for the clothing industry, but the specific organization and activities of the ministry are unknown due to a lack of historical documents.
