A Chinese scholar and poet of the Qing Dynasty. Born in Jiading, Jiangsu Province. His pen name was Feng Kai. His pen names were Litang, Xi Zhuang, and Xi Zhan. In the 19th year of the Qianlong era (1754), he passed the Jinshi examination. He was promoted to Cabinet Scholar and Assistant Minister of Rites, but was demoted to Guanglu Siqing due to his involvement in an incident. He later resigned from his position upon the death of his mother, and spent the next 30 years until his death devoted to reading and writing. In his youth, he studied under Huidong, and was renowned as a historian on a par with Zhao Yi and Qian Dayin. With his wide academic knowledge, he wrote many works in various fields, including classics and history. As a poet, he studied under Shen Deqian, one of the leading literary figures at the time, and was praised for his talent for poetry, as he loved Tang poetry. He is listed at the top of the "Selections of Poems from the Seven Masters of the Jiangzuo" edited by Shen Deqian, and together they are known as the Seven Masters of the Wuzhong. His main works include "Postscript to the Book of the Shangshu," "An Explanation of Military Rites from the Zhou," "Seventeen Histories of the Shang, Zhao," and "Edition of Moth Techniques." He also has anthologies of poems and prose, "Xizhuang Shizhong Guo" and "Xizhan Laoshi Anthology."

中国,清の考証学者,詩人。江蘇省嘉定の人。字は鳳かい (ほうかい) 。号は礼堂,西荘,西沚 (せいし) 。乾隆 19 (1754) 年進士に及第。内閣学士兼礼部侍郎まで昇進したが,ある事件に連座して光禄寺卿に左遷された。のち母の死に際して辞職し,その後世を去るまでの 30年近くを,読書と著述に専念して過した。若い頃,恵棟 (けいとう) について学問を修め,歴史学者として趙翼,銭大 昕と並び称された。広い学識をもとに,経学,史学などの各分野にわたる多くの著述がある。詩人としては,当時の文壇の一方の指導者であった沈徳潜の門に入り,唐詩を好んでその詩才をうたわれた。沈徳潜の編集した『江左七子詩選』の筆頭にあげられ,ともに呉中七子といわれた。主著は『尚書後案』『周礼軍賦説』『十七史商 榷』『蛾術編』。詩文集『西荘始存稿』『西沚居士集』。
