Les sylphides

Japanese: レ･シルフィード（英語表記）Les sylphides

A one-act ballet choreographed by Fokine to music by Chopin. An adaptation of the 1906 Chopiniana (original title), it premiered in Paris in 1909 by Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Starring Nijinsky, Anna Pavlova, and Karsavina. The title was changed to Les Sylphides by the set designer Benois (AN Benois), who also painted the backgrounds. In contrast to the classic romantic ballet La Sylphide, this work, which depicts the spirits of the air, effectively uses not only the leading role but also the corps de ballet, bringing a sense of fantasy to the entire piece.

ショパンの音楽にフォーキンが振付した1幕のバレエ。1906年の《ショピニアーナShopiniana(原作名)》を改作，09年ディアギレフのバレエ･リュッスによってパリで初演された。ニジンスキー，アンナ･パブロワ，カルサビナらが出演。背景画を描いた舞台装置家ブノア(A.N.ベヌア)により《レ･シルフィード》と改題された。ロマンティック･バレエの代表作《ラ･シルフィード》に対し，空気の精たちを描くこの作は，主役だけでなく，コール･ド･バレエを効果的に使い作品全体に幻想性をもたらした。
