1877‐1945 Mexican politician. He was a teacher before participating in the Mexican Revolution. After serving as state governor and cabinet minister, he became president (1924-28). He attempted many reforms, including the development of public education, the founding of a central bank, and the professionalization of the military. Based on the National Revolutionary Party (founded in 1929), the first ruling party to unite the country's major factions, he continued to wield real power as "Supreme Commander of the Revolution" even after his term ended, but in 1936 he came into conflict with President L. Cárdenas and was forced into exile. [Aoki Yoshio] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
