...It is made by dissolving 3-5% of citron-based fragrances such as neroli (orange flower) oil and bergamot oil in alcohol. Its origin is said to be Eau Admirable, which was created in Cologne by an Italian feminist at the end of the 17th century, but Gianmaria Farina (1685-1766), who took over the business, registered the names Eau de Cologne in 1742 and Kölnissi Wasser in 1764. Both names mean "water of Cologne." ...
