Omatsu - Omatsu

Japanese: お松 - おまつ

1663-1686 A woman from the early Edo period.
Born in 1666. She married Nishi Shingoro, a local samurai from Kamo Village, Awanaka County (Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture), but he died soon after. In accordance with her husband's will, she appealed to the authorities to recover the land that had been unjustly taken from her as payment for debts, but her appeal was ignored. In 1682, she appealed directly to the lord of Tokushima Domain, and was beheaded on March 16 of the same year. She was 24 years old. She was later enshrined as Omatsu Gongen.

寛文3年生まれ。生地阿波(あわ)那賀郡(なかぐん)加茂村(徳島県阿南市)の郷士西新五郎と結婚するが,まもなく死別。借金のかたに不当にとりあげられた土地をとりもどせという夫の遺言にしたがって役所にうったえるが相手にされず,貞享(じょうきょう)3年徳島藩主に直訴(じきそ),同年3月16日打ち首となった。24歳。のちお松権現としてまつられた。
