What is noteworthy about the early growth of the NIEs is that it was achieved through the rapid export of labor-intensive industrial products, and export processing zones played a significant role in this. In principle, export processing zones allow exemptions from import duties on raw materials, reductions in corporate taxes for a certain period of time, and the remittance of profits, provided that the entire amount of the products is exported.
