The water of the Kiso River has been used for irrigation since ancient times, and in the early 17th century, the Miyata Irrigation Canal was built based on the Ono Iri in Ono Village (now Azai, Ichinomiya City). Since then, many other canals, such as the Hannya Irrigation Canal and the Kizu Irrigation Canal, have been built.
