European Council

…the collective name for the three supranational regional integration organizations in Europe: the European Economic Community (EEC), the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and Euratom (the European Atomic Energy Community EURATOM). Although they are abbreviated as EC, they became part of the European Union (EU) that was created in 1992 by the Maastricht Treaty. The Council, which is the legislative body of the three communities, and the Commission, which is the executive body, were unified into a single EC Council (commonly known as the Council of Ministers) and a single EC Commission by the Fusion Treaty signed in April 1965, and the three communities were organizationally unified on July 1, 1967, and thereafter came to be known as the European Community. …

…ヨーロッパにおける三つの超国家的な地域統合機構であるヨーロッパ経済共同体(EEC)，ヨーロッパ石炭鉄鋼共同体(ECSC)，およびユーラトム(ヨーロッパ原子力共同体EURATOM)の総称。ECと略称するが，1992年のマーストリヒト条約によって誕生したヨーロッパ連合(EU)の一部となった。3共同体の立法機関である理事会と執行機関である委員会が，1965年4月に調印された融合条約によって，単一のEC理事会(通称は閣僚理事会)と単一のEC委員会に統一されることになり，67年7月1日を機に3共同体は機構的に統一され，以後ヨーロッパ共同体と呼ばれることになった。…
