The shell is about 11-14 mm long and 7-10 mm high, brown or yellowish brown in color. There is a hinge on the dorsal side connecting the left and right shells, and a adductor muscle at the front connecting both shells. The surface of the shell has 16 or so concentric growth lines centered on the apex of the shell. The body is almost completely enclosed by these two shells.
