Chemical soil stabilization method

... The following are some of the traditional methods of soil improvement: (1) compaction, which compacts loose ground with rollers or tamping tools; (2) water compaction, which compacts loose sand by pouring water on it; (3) physical soil improvement, which adds gravel and other materials to soft clayey soil to improve its quality; (4) drainage, which improves drainage for soil that is too wet and weak; (5) replacement, which replaces the soil with better quality soil; (6) chemical soil stabilization, which chemically improves the ground by adding lime and other materials; (7) surface treatment, which involves bundling trees and other materials into a grid pattern and laying them on the ground surface, and then building up soil on top of the grid; and (8) pile driving, which involves driving piles into loose sandy ground to compact it or driving piles into soft clayey ground to create a supportive framework in the ground. In recent years, when new land uses are planned in Japan, it is often the case that the purpose cannot be achieved without improving the ground on the remaining land.
