Obara Kuniyoshi - Obara Kuniyoshi

Educator of the Taisho and Showa periods. Born in Kagoshima Prefecture. Studied at Kagoshima Normal School, Hiroshima Higher Normal School, and Kyoto Imperial University, and served as principal of the elementary school attached to Hiroshima Higher Normal School before being appointed principal of Seijo Elementary School in 1919 (Taisho 8). Together with principal Sawayanagi Masataro, he played a leading role in the New Education Movement for educational reform. After Sawayanagi's death, he became principal of the school, but resigned in 1933 (Showa 8) due to an expulsion movement within the school. He devoted himself to the management of Tamagawa Gakuen, which he founded in 1929, and developed it into a major comprehensive school that attracted international attention. He was known for his outstanding planning, conception, and execution skills, as well as his eloquence. His theory of education was called "holistic education," and his ideal was to harmoniously develop the four values ​​of truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness in the personality.

大正・昭和期の教育者。鹿児島県生まれ。鹿児島師範、広島高等師範、京都帝国大学に学び、広島高師付属小学校の主事を経て、1919年（大正8）、成城小学校に主事として赴任。校長沢柳政太郎とともに教育改革のための新教育運動に指導的役割を果たす。沢柳の死去後、同校校長となるが、1933年（昭和8）に学内から排斥運動が起こり辞任。1929年に創設した玉川学園の経営に専念、同学園を国際的にも注目される一大総合学園に発展させた。その企画、構想、実行力は抜群で、雄弁でも知られている。教育論は「全人教育論」といわれ、真、善、美、聖という四つの価値を人格において調和的に発達させることを理想とした。
