...The flowers are white, yellow, blue, and purple, and there are about 25 varieties, including Wedgwood (pale blue). The Spanish iris, native to southern France, the Iberian Peninsula, and North Africa, and the English iris, I. xiphioides Ehrh., native to the Pyrenees, each have several varieties with unique flower colors, but their cultivation has declined due to the spread of the Dutch iris. There are also various types of small bulb irises, including I. reticulata Bieb., native to Asia Minor, the Caucasus, and Iran, which is about 10 cm tall and produces purple or blue flowers about 4 cm in diameter in February and March. There are about 10 varieties.
