This hot spring overlooks the Uguisu-shuku River valley in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate County, west of Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. Legend has it that it was named after a woodcutter who discovered a Japanese bush warbler soaking a wound on its leg in the hot water during the Tensho era (1573-92). It is a simple hydrogen sulfide spring, 57°C. It used to be a quiet hot spring resort, but in recent years hotels and inns have been built, and golf courses and ski resorts have been developed nearby, making it a tourist resort on the outskirts of Morioka City.
