Ishibe [town] - Ishibe

Japanese: 石部[町] - いしべ

A former town in Koka District, southern Shiga Prefecture. The city center on the left bank of the Yasu River developed as a post station on the Tokaido Highway, and the Kusatsu Line runs through it. It is close to the Meishin Expressway, and there are concrete and machinery factories, and rice fields along the river. In October 2004, it merged with Kosei Town in Koka District to become a city, Konan City. Area: ^{13.33 km2} . Population: 11,894 (2003).

滋賀県南部，甲賀(こうか)郡の旧町。野洲(やす)川左岸にある中心市街は東海道の宿駅として発達，草津線が通じる。名神高速道路に近く，コンクリート，機械などの工場があり，川沿いは水田が開ける。2004年10月甲賀郡甲西町と合併し市制，湖南市となる。13.33km²。１万1894人（2003）。
