A former town in Koka District, southern Shiga Prefecture. The city center on the left bank of the Yasu River developed as a post station on the Tokaido Highway, and the Kusatsu Line runs through it. It is close to the Meishin Expressway, and there are concrete and machinery factories, and rice fields along the river. In October 2004, it merged with Kosei Town in Koka District to become a city, Konan City. Area: 13.33 km2 .
