Beautiful Soul - Schöne Seele

Japanese: 美しき魂 - うつくしきたましい（英語表記）schöne Seele

A concept that was theoretically developed by Schiller. In contrast to Kant's austerism, Schiller considered the reconciliation of the dualistic opposition between reason and sensibility, and the beautiful soul was the ideal state of humanity in which reason and sensibility, duty and natural inclinations, were reconciled, and the expression of the beautiful soul was "grace" (Anmut). Concepts that preceded Schiller's "beautiful soul" include the ancient Greek kalokagatia, Shaftesbury's beauty of the heart in England, and J.-J. Rousseau's belle âme in France.

シラーにおいて理論的に深められた概念。カントの厳粛主義に対して，シラーは理性と感性との二元的対立の融和を考えたが，美しき魂とは理性と感性，義務と自然の傾向とが融和した人間性の理想的状態であり，美しき魂の表現が「優美」 Anmutであるとした。なおシラーの「美しき魂」に先行する概念としては，古代ギリシアのカロカガティア，イギリスのシャフツベリーの beauty of the heart，フランスの J.-J.ルソーの belle âmeをあげることができよう。
