Nippashigawa River

This river flows out from Choshi-no-guchi in the northwest of Lake Inawashiro in the central-western part of Fukushima Prefecture into the Aizu Basin and joins the Agagawa River almost in the center of the basin. It is about 20 kilometers long. Inawashiro No. 1 to No. 4 power plants were built in a stepped pattern during the Taisho period, taking advantage of the 300-meter difference in elevation between Lake Inawashiro and the Aizu Basin. Irrigation canals such as Tonoguchi Weir, Futo Weir, and Hibashi Weir also originate from this river. In the upper reaches, the river flows through a gorge in the Okinajima mudflow hills, forming a typical excavated meandering channel.

福島県中央西部、猪苗代湖(いなわしろこ)北西部の銚子(ちょうし)ノ口から会津(あいづ)盆地方面へ流出し、盆地のほぼ中央部で阿賀川(あががわ)に合流する川。延長約20キロメートル。猪苗代湖と会津盆地との比高約300メートルを利用して大正期に猪苗代第1～第4発電所が階段状につくられた。灌漑(かんがい)用の戸ノ口堰(とのくちぜき)、布藤(ふとう)堰、日橋堰などの用水路もこの川から引かれている。上流部は翁島(おきなじま)泥流丘陵を峡谷をつくって流れ、典型的な掘削曲流路となっている。
