Einsatz

...Generally, the conductor directs an orchestra, chorus, opera, or ensemble by visual means, using gestures or a baton. The conductor not only keeps the rhythm and time, but also indicates the "entrance" (Einsatz) of the instruments and voices, and gives instructions on dynamics, phrasing, articulation, and other fine expressions. He must also deeply read the score, set his own interpretation, and ensure that the performers follow it thoroughly, and rehearsals are an essential opportunity for this.
