Olfactory mucosa

Japanese: 嗅粘膜 - きゅうねんまく
Olfactory mucosa
It is a part of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, and occupies only the part called the olfactory region, where the olfactory nerve is distributed. The olfactory region is the superior turbinate at the top of the nasal cavity and the nasal septum, and differs from the mucous membrane of the other parts, i.e., the respiratory region, in that it is dark brown in color. The epithelium of the olfactory mucosa is made up of long, thin sensory cells called olfactory cells, which are connected to the olfactory nerve. → Sense of smell
