...A general term for parasitic worms belonging to the Ancylostomidae family of the Strongyle order of the Nematoda class, Bigynal class. In 1838, A. Dubini discovered one in Milan for the first time, and in 1843 he named it Ancylostoma duodenale (the specific name means "duodenum"), hence the name duodenal worm. However, it actually parasitizes the middle to upper part of the small intestine (mainly the jejunum) rather than the duodenum. It is also called a hookworm. ...

...A type of human parasitic nematode. It was discovered in 1838 by Angelo Dubini (1813-1902) during an autopsy on a woman in Milan, and named in 1843, but what is believed to be this species was already recorded in an ancient Egyptian papyrus document from around 1600 BC. The adult worm parasitizes the upper part of the human small intestine, attaches to the mucous membrane and sucks blood, causing iron deficiency anemia.
