The Three Generations of Sanada

Japanese: 真田三代記 - さなださんだいき

This is a storytelling that focuses on the rise and fall of three generations of the Sanada clan: Sanada Masayuki, Sanada Yukimura, and Sanada Yukiyasu (nicknamed Daisuke). It is based on a true-life novel that was written near the end of the Edo period, and the story focuses on Yukimura's heroic fighting in the Battle of Osaka. The stories of setting landmines and cornering Tokugawa Ieyasu are particularly famous. In the end, Yukimura and his son accompanied Toyotomi Hideyori to Satsuma, where they attempted to make a comeback. Another distinctive feature is the appearance of heroes such as Ban Danemon, Goto Matabei, and Kimura Shigenari. These stories later developed into the long storytelling stories "The Ten Braves of Sanada" and "Sarutobi Sasuke."

真田昌幸，真田幸村，真田幸泰(通称大助)の真田家3代の興亡を主題とした講談。幕末近くに成立した実録体小説をもとにしており，講談ではなかでも幸村の大坂の役の奮戦が中心となっている。ことに地雷火を仕掛けたり，徳川家康を追い詰める話は有名である。最後に幸村親子は豊臣秀頼を奉じて薩摩へ落ち再起を図ることになる。塙（ばん）団右衛門，後藤又兵衛，木村重成等の〈英雄〉が登場するのも特色の一つである。なお，これらの話から発展して，のち《真田十勇士》《猿飛佐助》の長編講談も生まれている。
