Sanpuku Pass

Japanese: 三伏峠 - さんぷくとうげ

A pass located in the southeast of Nagano Prefecture, on the border with Shizuoka Prefecture, south of Shiomi-dake. It is 2,580m above sea level. It is located in the center of the Akaishi Mountain Range and is the highest pass in Japan. To the west, it connects to the Ina Basin via the valleys of the Shiokawa and Koshibugawa rivers, and to the east, it connects to the Tokai region along the river via Nishimata, the source of the Oi River. There is the Sanpukutoge hut, and it is a base for climbing Shiomi-dake to the north, and Arakawa-dake and Akaishi-dake to the south. It belongs to the Southern Alps National Park.

長野県南東部，静岡県との県境，塩見岳の南側にある峠。標高 2580m。赤石山脈の中央部にあり峠としては日本で最高所にある。西は塩川，小渋川の谷を経て伊那盆地に通じ，東は大井川の源流西俣を経て川沿いに東海地方に達する。三伏峠小屋があり，北の塩見岳，南の荒川岳，赤石岳などへの登山拠点となっている。南アルプス国立公園に属する。
