…A family of aristocrats in the city of Amsterdam in the 17th century. Jacob Trip, who settled in Zaltbommel in the Netherlands around the time the Dutch revolt against King Philip II of Spain began, had two sons, Elias (c. 1570-1635), Jacob (1575-1663), and grandson Adriaan (1621-84), who married the daughters of the De Geer family, the largest iron and arms dealer in the Netherlands at the time. The two families worked together to accumulate enormous wealth through international trade in iron, copper, and military supplies. …
